You will need a AMB TransX 160 type transponder. AMB also has the new Flex subscription-based transponders. Generally speaking an AMB battery powered yellow transponders should work.

One word of advice if you are thinking about buying a used transponder.
The batteries are actually potted in an epoxy inside the transponder and really can't be replaced. When fully charged the LED on the transponder will flash green in a sequence, pause, and then repeat. Each fast blink of the LED represents 1 day of battery life. A good battery should flash 3-4 times before pausing, indicating 3-4 days of battery life.

If, when fully charged, a used transponder flashes less that 3 rapid blinks before pausing, I would not purchase it.

You also want to find out from the original owner if they registered it on mylaps.com. One of the best benefits of owning your own transponder is all of your race data from that transponder being stored to your mylaps.com account. If it has be previously registered Mylaps charges $42 to move it to a new account.

And as far as what is needed at the track, just the number on the front of the transponder.

We got the flex subscription from Mylaps. You can check it out at mylaps.com. I looked at buying one, but it did not include insurance and who knows when something will change! It includes insurance, subscription, warranty etc. I called them and they were very helpful. The North and South American HQ are in Atlanta!
