|The purpose of this thread is to address rumors that may be circulating and to either confirm or debunk said rumors.
If you have heard a rumor you would like addressed in this thread, please submit a PM or Email to GSKA Info using the links below.
Rumor #1- Some classes are going to be limited to 2 sets of tires for the race season.
- This was discussed by the BOD as a cost saving measure, but ultimately it was voted down due to the difficulty in enforcement. DEAD
Rumor #2 - Some classes will be using a Maxxis tire as the spec tire in 2014.
- This was discussed by the BOD since the nice folks at Maxxis offered to supply tires as merchandise awards for our year end banquet. Ultimately this offer was matched by Margay (One of the 2 US Bridgestone importers) so the BOD decided to stay the coarse with the WKA spec Bridgestone tires . As a bonus we will have quite a few sets of tires to give away at the 2014 banquet! DEAD
Rumor #3 - GSKA is installing lights at the track for night racing
- This is partially true. Dr. Chip has located and purchased some used pre-cast concrete poles and lighting from a country club that was being demolished in Jacksonville. We hope to have them delivered to the track by the end of Feb. Once we get them "on the ground" we will formulate a plan to try to get the poles placed and lights installed. It should be noted that this is considered to be a long-term project at this point, and it is doubtful that we would be able to get them in place for 2014, unless some very generous donors come forward.
Rumor #4 - The new 4 Cycle Sportsman class does not allow 6.00x5 rear tires
- No longer the case. Since the 4 cycle sportsman class is a transitional class (from clone TO Animal Pro Gas), the core WKA Pro Gas parameters were followed when creating the class. The original 2014 WKA rule book had Pro Gas Sportsman listed as running 4.50x5 tires front and rear. WKA changed that on the Pit Board on 2/18/14. The 6.00 tire will be permitted as an optional rear tire in the 4 Cycle Sportsman class for 2014.
