I think the only thing I am lacking for my son to be ready (aside from about 3 tons of weight to get him up to 265lbs) is some kind of neck support. I was wondering what most folks out there use - the basic cheap foam neck roll? The Valhalla 360? EVS collar? Something else?

Looking forward to race #1!

My daughter uses the EVS R4 and loves it. She said it more comfortable than the regular foam neckbrace.

My son was using foam, valhalla 360 device few years later, leatt brace now and it is much better than valhalla 360.
If I had to live all those years ago (that would be fun), I would go with leatt brace.

Another vote for the EVS...
We just started using them and like it a lot more than the foam ones.

Glad to hear the EVS is getting some love - I was leaning that direction. The foam ones don't seem substantial enough, so I didn't want to go that way unless the general consensus was that they are adequate.

I 2nd the leatt for neck protection, 360 would be my 2nd choice. Armadillo is the only way to go on chest protection, very adjustable and fit like a glove when they are adjusted correctly. Connor has used his same one from age 8-13 and still has plenty of adjustment left in it. The Armadillo is one piece of safety gear I never have to bug him about, he says it makes things way more comfortable.

Leatt neck brace and the Armadillo rib vest is the way to go.
