The PKA (Professional Karting Assn.) put on a street race in Athens I think in the 90's in conjunction with the Golden Ginko Festival.

Dicky, Geoff Barnes, me and several others participated. It was alot of fun and there were thousands of spectators.

It would be neat to race there again. Cool

What part of Athens did they race in?

It's been a long time but I think it was in the North East part of downtown.
The streets used were:

E. Dougherty St.
N. Jackson St.
E. Hancock Ave
N. Thomas St.

The course was both uphill and downhill and very fast straights. There was a tight turn at the intersection of N. Thomas and E. Dougherty St in front of Foundary Park Inn.

Spectators were lined up on both sides of the streets and people were on top of taller buildings on E. Hancock Ave. looking at the race.

Yes, the Athens race is the one I have heard people discuss. Any exposure outside of B'Ville would be great for the club. Am I sure it can happen, NO but if we dont try we wont know.

Our good friend & racer Chip Robinson may have a connection with Skylar's new sponsor Wild Wing Cafe, as they have a resturant in Athens. We need to approach them with our idea and see what happens.
It would need to be combined with other events held in Athens, a bike race and street festival as I am told.

ive seen lanier and i think it would be fun to have someting there if we were to cut off the turn a little and make it ride through the pits. as far as racing on the road im all for that... i wish we could do a series of real road races that would take us around GA or someting. . the kart tour de Georgia. ha

I don't know how Kerry did. Dicky won Yamaha Heavy And Light, came in 3rd in Medium, also won 100cc controlled. Allen broke a chain but got the award for slinging a helmet for the longest distance. At least that's the way the story has been told.

Joshua , have you ever skipped a rock on a pond?
