Richie,
Get Angus competitve in the Cadet class regionally then purchase a rotax motor and switch it out with the K80 when you want to run minimax. You can use the same chassis. I do agree with wehrhein, set up is crucial. Seat placement, tire pressure, equalizing the pressures, etc. I made a few simple changes a couple of weeks ago and picked up 2 seconds a lap, which in qualifing at Monticello put Taylor under a second under last years pole time for Cadet. Two simple changes made a huge difference in the kart & driver.

The Rotax FR125 is a scooter based engine, hints why it has a motorcycle style carb on it. If you want a High Quality Precision motor look at ICA, ICC, KF and some TaGs.

Not aware of a class for 8-12 year olds that uses those motors. Our choices are Comer 80, Rotax FR125, Yamaha KT100 or Briggs. Of those, the rotax is the most precision made motor, not knocking the other motors, rotax is just better made. Again, I like all four, we race all four but I think the rotax is the best made and most durable. Really if you can put gas in and can make it go fast, it is good with me!
