I have noticed for almost all season that some kart have transponders mounted in the wrong place making the kart illegal . Please check rules for WKA and GSKA .

As I will now be the acting official at weigh in this is a item I ask to be able to check.

For the first offense the driver will be given a warning and recorded if not mounted correctly. If this is not rectified by the following race then I will recommend to the race director to disqualify you from that day.

A note " it is NOT up to the official to check where transponder is placed , it is a tech item and therefore is subject to inspection at any time . It is the responsibility of the driver"

thank you
steve

I would prefer that John W. our race director answer that .

I understand it to be aprox. 8" or more behind the king pin of the front spindle on all but clone karts.
In clone I believe it to be behind the seat.

The reasons I would like to check this are two fold

1- I noticed last race at least 1 kart had the transponder mounted on the front bumper and I know this is not legal.
2-If a racer travels I do not want them to be surprised if they are disqualified because of location and the club to get a reputation of anything goes.

thx
steve

Steve, The placement for all rotax classes is on the rear of the seat, per RMKC rule book.

8" from kingpin will be somewhere on sidepod, right?
Some bodywork (Arrow, all chassis except cadet) don't have a safe, vertical place to mount a transponder. We don't have drivers in non-rotax classes using that type of sidepods, but who knows for the future.

Steve
The rules for 2 and 4 cycle sprints are no less than 9" to the rear centerline of the front kingpin.(Gold cup and Manufacturer's cup)
I mount Dan's to the side nerf bar on the inside of the bodywork.
Clone rules are behind the seat.(Per our rules, as listed by Michael Jackson)
And Rick covered the Rotax's placement per RMKC rule book.

Thanks for all the info , I will have a handout for next race day. This club is growing fast and we need to get the basic rules in place and inforced. If anyone has any suggestions of items I may want to check as the karts cross the scales please let me know. At the scales is a limited check due to time restrictions , but, basic things like transponder location,or spec tires can be accomplished.

thanks all

They were really lax about this at the Gold Cup last Nov too. I saw quite a few karts (including some front-runners) with the transponders on or forward of the front bumper. I didn't see any DQs, so I guess if no one complains, they don't say anything about it.
