We are making the transition from clone to pro gas animal (4 cycle sportsman). Looking at Bully and the Vortex red for the clutch. Does anyone have any knowledge of the Vortex? Is it worth another $60? Is it even allowed at Barnesville? Thanks much for any input!

Yes the vortex clutch is allowed. You could also still use the drum clutch for now provided you can change the stall speed. If you have a stinger clutch I would suggest starting with a new key as they get sloppy and wear the crank.

2 methods of doing the same thing, bully uses a screw to adjust a spring to adjust engagement rpm, vortex uses different holes in a plate to adjust. Bully does need occasional checks of air gap, whereas vortex air gap is unimportant. Both work well, and both need maitinance at some point. Check you pm' s by the way.

We bought a red vortex for Davids 4 cycle. It works fine, HOWEVER, it is expensive and you have to buy all new front sprockets for it. If you need to borrow a front sprocket you cant use another unless it is from SMC. By the time you buy the clutch, sprockets and spare parts you can easily run over $600.00

We also recently bought a bully clutch. For what it is worth, I agree with Rich and would run your shoe clutch first. Then I would get a Bully from Stevie.

I have a Horstman MDC 2 Disk clutch if anyone wants it. I have 6 new disks for spares and 4 drivers. $150.
