Challenge for GSKA members

No bs here just what I read from people who tested them Guys,
The weather here in Illinois was great on Friday so my son Matthew and I were able to go to Midstate kart club and test the new pipe and compare it to the existing ssx can. Our lap times are right around 33 seconds with a can. Once we established a good baseline with the can, we simply unbolted the can and bolted on the pipe at 9 5/8 flex length. Adjusted carb and headed back out. Matthew came in and said it was a fun ride with lots of bottom end but not a lot of top end. Went about .8 to .9 faster. So can went 33.0 to 33.1 and pipe went 32.2. Did nothing else. Tried adding teeth but really didn't gain on the watch. RPM's on the can were at 13900 to 14000 and when we bolted on the pipe RPM's went up to 14300 to 14400. Clutch went up about 200 RPM's which is right where it needs to be. Peak torque on my dyno says 9000. we never slipped it any higher and when we came in off the track, the clutch seemed cooler than with the can. Guessing it locks up quicker and has more time to cool.
One thing I should mention is we tried gearing it up so the engine turned almost 15000 and no gain. Adding flex length did seem to help.

I am writing this so if you are going to Daytona and don't have time to test, you can have something to start with. If you have any more questions pertaining to the pipe, call me at my shop and I will be glad to share any info I have. If you haven't seen the pipe yet check out a picture of the kit on my website.
We also threw on the .750 filter cup, adjusted the carb and tested it. It was approx. .8 to .9 slower than the normal can setup and really lacked top end. RPM's went down to 13500 with same gear. 11-82

Thanks for posting and my comment about no BS was not pointed at you. I know Kent and he knows his stuff, but it looks like he did not do extensive testing. Midstate is a 5/10 mile track, I believe Barnesville is around 2.5/10 mile track. Based on Kent's baseline test, I believe we can see a half second or more off lap times.

That being said, time will tell.

Also, once I have the facts from some of the other engine builders, i will let everyone know so everyone can make an informed decision. I hope to have this within the next 2-3 weeks once the engine builders have had time to see what the pipes want, (changes to the motor.)

All of this discussion has gotten off the point.

First, this post was about how to get new members out to the track, not change how things are being done. We have a tried and true formula that majority of the club is very happy with. We would love to have some new venues (remember Augusta?) but that may not be on the cards in the near future.

As far as the tangent that this post went off on in relation to the Yamaha class, we are a WKA track and we try hard to use their rules so we can have a consistent and level playing field.

Although I might be a bit young to be commenting on this, if we are looking for some extra exposure, things like youtube and other social networking sites can be helpful as well. I am probably saying things others already know, but I am hoping to get the new GoPro 3 for Xmas, and with permission from whom I need it from to film, make some highlight reels of GSKA racedays and then post them to my youtube channel which has over 400 subscribers and rising.

Getting the association out there in as many ways possible on the internet is endless, and there are plenty of small businesses associated with racing on here that would be more than happy to sponsor a race at another venue. Heck, maybe we could even try to do a tape-delay full broadcast of the event that was mentioned earlier about AMP or something relatively close to it at Barnesville.

Nothing would make me happier than someone to run with the Social Media ball. And, even though you are young, you are wiser than your years, and would be a great candidate for Social Media Director. I will run it by the board and get back to you.
